Elective Surgical Hub at King George Hospital
Laser Electrical recently completed the electrical works for the newly expanded Elective Surgical Hub at King George Hospital, commissioned by Neilcott Construction Limited. The extension, which includes two state-of-the-art theatres, will enable the Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust to perform an additional 100 operations each week. This substantial increase in capacity aims to reduce waiting times and improve patient care significantly.
Client Background
Neilcott Construction Limited, a reputable construction company known for its commitment to quality and innovation, led the project. The surgical hub is part of a nationwide initiative recognising high standards and a commitment to training in surgical facilities. It is one of eight such hubs across the country, integrating modern technology with practical, patient-centered design.
Project Details
The King George Hospital expansion includes:
- Two New Theatres: The hub houses two fully equipped theatres with the latest medical technology, enhancing the hospital’s surgical capabilities.
- Advanced Technology: The facility is fitted with cutting-edge equipment, including hybrid ultraclean canopies and radiation shielding, ensuring a modern, safe, and efficient environment for surgeries.
Laser Electrical was tasked with the installation of several critical systems within the new surgical hub:
- Emergency Lighting: We installed a comprehensive emergency lighting system throughout the facility to ensure safety and visibility in case of power outages.
- Operating Lighting: Specialised operating lights were installed in the new theatres, providing surgeons with the precision and clarity required for complex procedures.
- Audio-Visual (AV) System: A new AV system was integrated, supporting educational and training needs by facilitating real-time monitoring and recording of surgical procedures.
- Access Control System: We implemented a new access control system to enhance security and manage access to sensitive areas within the hub.
- Fire Alarm System: A state-of-the-art fire alarm system was installed to ensure the safety of patients, staff, and the facility.
- Low Voltage (LV) Distribution System: Within the plant room, we set up a new LV distribution system to manage the hospital’s electrical needs efficiently and reliably.
Project Outcome
The successful delivery of the electrical systems by Laser Electrical has contributed to the operational readiness of the new surgical hub. This state-of-the-art facility is now fully functional and capable of supporting an increased number of surgeries, thereby addressing the high demand for elective procedures and reducing waiting lists significantly.
